Vocaloid 4 list3/9/2024 ![]() ![]() Whether it’ll work out that way long-term will be interesting to see, but in the meantime, we get some compelling new goodies. Two of the first Vocaloid voices, Lola and Leon, were described as soul vocalists. In a way, they’re almost going back to the pre-Miku roots. That said, Yamaha seems to be deliberately trying to get away from cute, robotic and character-driven vocals and appeal more to mainstream producers and media composers. Vocaloid is associated mainly with Hatsune Miku, who has now been out for eleven years and is something of a mainstream cultural icon who even advertises pizzas. To sum it up in a few words, Vocaloid became more user-friendly while managing to give its singing robots a touch of soul. I reviewed the previous iteration of the instrument two years ago (check out our Vocaloid 4 review), and a lot has changed in the meantime. Vocaloid 5 is the latest version of Yamaha’s famous singing synthesizer. ![]()
